-
Loose prints, some with captions written on the reverse. The set records the return to India of a shield, Dal-i-abince (iron weapon), Shumsher Teghab (scimitar), Chakra (golden quoit), a large spear and a small spear, which had once belonged to the Sikh leader Guru Govind Singh and which came into Lord Dalhousie's possession at the end of the Second Sikh War of 1848-9. The items were presented to the Indian Government by Dalhousie's great grand-daughter Lady Edith Broun-Lindsay in December 1965. Five of the prints show scenes at Palam Airport, Delhi, on 1 January 1966; one print shows the relics on display in the Indian High Commission in London in December 1965. The collection includes a copy of the timetable of events at Delhi, and a typescript account (xerox copy from Mss Eur. D 677) by Mildred Archer of the history and return of the relics.
