Administrative / biographical background

The church of St. Michael and All Angels was built in 1896 as a chapel of ease to Claughton cum Grange Christ Church. A separate parish was formed in 1912 from parts of the new parishes of Claughton cum Grange Christ Church and Tranmere St. Catherine. In 1958 the parish of St. Michael and All Angels was united with the parish of Christ Church, and the church of St. Michael and All Angels was subsequently demolished. In 1985 the united parish was renamed Birkenhead Christchurch
