NOTE: The majority of these MSS, including all those before the 19th century, are those of the Neville family of Holt, Leics., and are closely connected with some others presented to the Commission by Brigadier Peake's grandfather Mr. Frederick Peake, (whose family were solicitors to the Nevilles) many years ago, and described in the 2nd, and 3rd printed reports of the Commission; some of the MSS so presented were later given to the Bodleian Library. Most of the 19th century papers, appear to be those of the Peake family of Burrough-on-the-Hill, Leics.

The only place name occurring in both the Neville and the Peake MSS is MEDBOURNE.

The families were connected by the marriage of Brigadier Peakes great-uncle the Rev. J.D. Peake and Miss Lavinia Neville.
