Roll of Honour (De Ruvigny) Vol II, Part 1, p 68 PORTRAIT: Major, Duke of Lancasters' Own Yeo, attd MGC;2nd son of Herbert Shephered-Cross of Hamels Park, Buntingford, Herts (MP for Bolton for over 20 yrs) by his wife Lucy Mary, d. of the Rev T Shepherd Birley; born Breightmet, Co.Lancaster 17/12/1877;educ Temple Grove; Eton; & Univ College, Oxford. Served in SA campaign 1900 with Imp Yeo (Queen's medal with 4 clasps, MID) after which he was given the rank of Lt in the Regular Army. Was called to the bar in 1904 subsequently practising for 2 yrs but then entered business and interested himself largely in agriculture. Volunteered his services on outbreak of European War; obtained Captaincy in the D of Lancs Yeo 22/9/14 but wishing to take a more active part in the war, transf to Hodson's Horse in April 1915; served with BEF in F&F from that month;attached MGC in June 1916;promoted Major 7/4/1917, first commanding a Company and later becoming Div MG Officer to 9 Div and died nr Ypres on 15/10/1917 of wounds received in action. Buried Dozinghem Brit Cem. He married at the Church of the Annunciation, St Marylebone, London 26/11/03 Meta (Hopton House, Wirksworth, Derbys) d of Lt Col Frederick Leigh Grundy, late Warwks R, and had 4 children - Michael Herbert b 20/1/1911: Peter Cecil b 22/11/1913, Elizabeth b 15/4/06 and Daphne b 29/8/1907.

War Diary 13/6/1917 - arrived to assume command of Coy - war diary;

Dozinghem Military Cemetery - Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.;
