Description

The first Drawing Register was evidently inherited by Underhill, presumably from his partner G A Cox. The first half, which runs from 1897 to 1912, details drawings produced, presumably by Cox, and where the drawing resides i.e. sent to or collected by client, retained at office etc. There are some pages removed and a page is marked Messrs Cox and Underhill. It then records a new set of number (beginning at drawing no 250) which is continued by Underhill into the second register which ends with Underhill's death in 1964. At the end of the volume, there is an index and a list of drawings by a variety of other architects' practices. The other practices are: Herbert R. Lloyd, Crouch and Butler, Henman and Cooper, Newton and Cheatle, W. Hawley Lloyds, Bateman and Bateman, Cossins Peacock and Bewlay, Cox and Silk and Beresford Pite. It also refers to "various other architects". The register refers to an office fire on 18th December 1908 which destroyed some of these drawings. Silk seems to have been a surveyor so it is possible he undertook work for other architect clients.
