Description

Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Medina Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1795, 1797, 1798, 1801 and 1802 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Medina Lodge No. 35 was established in 1761 and met at an unknown location in West Cowes on the Isle of Wight. By 1768 the lodge met at the Vine Tavern, High Street, West Cowes and the meetings remained there until 1773 when the lodge was erased. In 1779 the lodge was reinstated and named the Medina Lodge. Once reinstated the lodge again met at the Vine Tavern for its meetings. In 1840 the lodge moved to East Cowes, meeting at the Star Inn, Castle Street but in 1843 they returned to West Cowes, meeting in a private room. The Lodge now meets at the Masonic Hall, Castle Road, Cowes.
