Genre: Architectural Photography. Close view of a sculptured female figure. Lyon's 'Notes to accompany a series of photographs prepared to illustrate the ancient architecture of southern India' (Marion and Co., London, 1870), edited by James Fergusson, gives the following description of this photograph: '300 - shows also a figure of a woman cut out of a pillar, and the paintings on the walls of the colonnade round the trellis-work is that shown in 297, said to have been erected to conceal the women of the king.' Another copy at Photo 1000/29(2950).
