Description (What the record is about)
-
This scribal manuscript is a translated copy of the orginally Spanish text 'Tratado de republica y policia cristiana para reyes y principes' - "Christian policy" composed by Friar Juan de Santa Maria of the province of St Joseph and of the order of St Francis. The title page includes the description: "written for the good of kings and princes, and such as in authority under them and trusted with state affairs." This book has possibly been written out by the same scribe who wrote HMS/4/2. Only the dedicated epistle and chapter 1-4 are present in this copy. Noel Malcom suggests the commission to transcribe the text may have been cancelled before it was finished due to the imminent printed translation.
The last 185 folios are blank.
