Papers relating to his tenure of the Office of Sheriff of Wilts 1660-1661. Among them are: -

1. (a) warrant of Charles I permitting him to live outside the county during his term of office. 27 Nov. 1660.

Signed "Charles R." and by Sir Edward Nicholas: f.1: (b) Names of the Grand Jurors at Sessions, 8 Jan. 1660[1]. f.10: (c) Calendar of prisoners in the Gaol at Fisherton Anger and their sentences with names of 45 persons committed for refusing to take the oath of Allegiance, 6 Mar. 1660[1]. ff.30,31: (d) Receipts from various parishes in Wilts of Briefs distributed by the Sheriff for relief of the Protestant Churches of Lithuania, 1661 ff.115-123: (e) "Catalogue of fees paid in ye Exchequer in passing an Account": f.137: (f) Book of Sir J. Thynne's expenses as High Sheriff of Wilts. 1661 f.139.

2. Statement of Case of Sir J. Thynne and the machinations of Katharine, Lady Thynne, his stepmother to induce her husband Sir T. Thynne to disinherit the sons of his first wife: after 1660. f.163.

3. Will of Sir James Thynne, 2 Oct. 1663. Signed, sealed and attested. f.178

4. Privy Seal of Charles II ordering the repayment to Sir J. Thynne of the sum of £2000 in which he was bound to Charles I. at Oxford in 1643, and being arrested on the said bond in 1653 was forced to pay the said sum: 23 Mar. anno 1. [1665]. Copy, made 11 Feb. 1667[8]. f.207.

5. An Act for settling the estate of Sir James Thynne, 1665. Two copies. ff. 210,214.

6. Will of Sir James Thynne, sealed, signed and attested: 7 Nov. 1665. f.216.

7. Statement of William Thynne (agent to Sir Jas. Thynne) sworn before William Childe, Master in Chancery, of certain words which Sir James spoke when on his death-bed desiring that his half-brother Sir Henry Frederick Thynne and his issue should be excluded from any benefits after his death, and signifying that his nephew Thomas son of Sir Thomas his brother was his heir and if he (the nephew) should die without male heir, then John Thynne of Egham, sen. and his heirs male should succeed to the inheritance: 17 Dec. 1670. Followed by other papers on the same subject ff. 222 - 229.
