John Clark, master, and John Quick, mate, of the sloop Hopeful, swore that they shipped, at Bristol, on 15 Aug. 1794, 32 tons of white salt, duty paid, bound for Falmouth for Joseph Carne, Benjamin Wilkey, Jasper Richards, Joseph Ferries, William Ferris, Peter Traer and George Thomas, all of Truro, Richard Burn and John Richards of Falmouth, and Nicholas Jennings of St Mawes; on the voyage, they met with stormy and tempestuous weather, when the vessel sprung a leak, and 6 tons 800 lbs. of salt were lost, not by any fault in the ship or neglect by the crew.
