-
Two charity schools, the Blue Gown (for 22 poor girls), and the Gray Coat (for 22 poor boys) were established in Chichester by public subscription in 1710. Their endowments were later supplemented by legacies from Bishop Manningham, 1722, and George Sedgwick, 1785. The schools closed in the nineteenth century and the endowments were used towards the clothing and education of children at the Church Schools in the city.
The records were deposited Cuthbert Dalby, Esq., correspondent to the Central Schools managers, 12 St. John's St., Chichester, January 1952.
