Letter from William Urwick to Rev. R.J.Davies. They called at Marrington on Saturday & saw Mrs. Rorbes. In the unfinished room are a great many heavy chests which they could not look into except one or two on the top, & there appeared to contain old books & newspapers - the Colonel's desk they unlocked & found the gold watch & seals perfectly safe. They observed a large hamper labelled "best china & glass". The room appeared dry. The linen chest in the passage upstairs they opened & found it to contain old deeds, a very small bundle of linen, a gun odds & ends. The wine cellar door they could not open being fastened by an iron bar across tightly wedged in, so they left the looking into this cellar to another opportunity - the ladies they were told were much inconvenienced for want of a water closet in the house & Mrs. Forbes pressed them very much to have one. Nothing was promised & he asks whether D. would recommend one to be made. The front of the house requires some repair a good deal of the plastering having fallen off the stone work at the farther end, & Mrs. F. said the paper of the room was being injured by the damp & some of the black timber work appears a good deal decayed. They suppose they must have some one to do these repairs for the preservation of the house.
