Transcript;-
Copy to George Ormerod Esqr. 31, Welsbeck Street, London. Shrigley January 2nd. 1819
Mr Downes presents his Complts to Mr. Ormerod & is sorry that he has not been able to pay earlier attention to his Note of the 30th of last November & cannot ot this time give any other than general replies to his Queries, for he continues still much too unwell to search with proper diligence among his old Evidences, which unfortunately are in a very decayed state He has made what little search has been in his power, without meeting with any material information in the subject of the Forestership of Macclesfield Forest, except that it was stopped by Robert de Downes before the the reign of Mary 5th ---- The Manuscript, which Mr. D has is entitled "The Descent of the Family of Downes of Shrigley & Worth in the County Palatine of Chester: collected out of the Evidences of that Family & other deeds or leases, by the Revd. Henry Richardson -- 1730". The Pedigree therefore to which Mr. Ormerod alludes transcribed by Mr. Francis Leycester is patently Copied from this - & as Mr. Ormerod has found it to agree with other accounts, he presumes there may be no necessity for Mr. D. to have the trouble of sending it to him to be collated, especially as he is persuaded for the sake of his health to try change of air for a few weeks, & hopes to be able to leave home on Monday-- Beristow Hall Mr. D bought together with Pott Hall & other Property from James Beech Esqr. of Shaw near Cheadle Staffordshire. Mr. D thinks it proper to add that he has lately sold all his Shrigley & adjacent Property to Mr. William Turner, of Mill Hill, near Blackburn Lancashire. Mr. Ormerod's continuation of the Pedigree he begs leave to return to him with such corrections & additions as he is able to make to it. His Sister unites with him in Compliments to Mrs Ormerod & thanks for her kind wishes for his recovery.
