These files contain affidavits relating to cases of debt mainly in the Sheriff's Pentice Court, but there are some also relating to cases of debt in the Mayor's Portmote Court. After 1799, and for a few years previously, similar affidavits are found on the Sheriffs' Files relating to cases of debt in the Pentice Court and on the Mayors' Files relating to cases in the Portmote Court; However, these affidavits are not found on the Mayors and Sheriffs' Files before 1706, so it would seem that the earlier affidavit files have been lost.
