Mainly from Tufton Beamish en route to India, and before and after his escape following the fall of Singapore, Oct 1941 - Apr 1942 (20 items)

Nos 1-5 are full accounts of the voyage out, no 5 being written from 'a South African port' and including description of a (poor) talk by Field Marshall Smuts. No 6 is a detailed account of his first reactions to India. By Feb he was in Singapore, and by March safe in Ceylon. No 20 is TB's full and critical account (29pp) of the fall of Singapore, dated Easter Day 1942 (for a typescript see CLW/1/1/2(f)). No 15 describes the death in action at Tobruk of TB's friend Capt James Jackman from Co Dublin, Nov 1941. For the escape from Singapore, etc, see also CLW/1/1/2
