Administrative / biographical background

The manor of Oxhey in Watford was held by Roger de Croxley, who died leaving three daughters, of whom Petronilla married Robert de Damneville of Bitton and Mangotsfield (Glos.) [VCH Herts. ii. 455.]. The rent of 10 marks evidently represents the portion which passed through the Damnevilles' daughter Petronilla and her husband William de Putot to that couple's daughter Petronilla, who married John de Vivonia and David le Blount.
