Administrative / biographical background

The Manchester Sacred Song Association was formed in 1875. Its origins lay in the voluntary choir of Messrs Moody and Sankey and it was evangelistical and spiritual in nature.

The choir sang at many venues around Manchester - in Hospitals, Ragged Schools, Working-people's Halls etc.

It was decided, after falling membership, that the Association should be disbanded in 1975
