The Coroner for Bath had jurisdiction for the City of Bath only until 1974 whereupon the creation of Avon County widened the jurisdiction to Bath, Wansdyke and Woodspring (now modern day Bath & North East Somerset, and North Somerset), which was known as No.1 District for Avon.
In 1988 the Coroner's districts for Avon merged to form one single jurisdction for Avon County. From 1988, indefinitely, all Coroner inquests and records are transferred to Bristol Archives.
