Papers relating to his military career, 1915 - 1950, comprising: small series of official records from his service as a junior officer in the Royal Engineers during the First World War, including Mentions in Despatches from Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig; various items of correspondence from the period 1914 - 1945, including letters from his father describing air raids over Ightham (Kent) during the Second World War; miscellaneous papers concerning Bowra's service in India with the Military Engineering Services, 1931 - 1945, notably two detailed diaries (415pp ts) for the entire period which provide many insights into his work and the condition of India during that time; and six photograph albums containing material from the period 1916 - 1939.
