The Lodge of St. George No. 497 [Moderns] was granted its warrant on 7 April 1792 and was known to have met at two venues in North Shields during its working life. These were: the White Swan, Liddell Street, North Shields from 1792 and the Commercial Hotel, Howard Street, North Shields from 1825. The lodge continued to meet there until it was erased in 1834. The lodge also underwent several re-numerations while working. These were as follows: No. 588 in 1781, 497 in 1792, 534 in 1814 and 355 in 1832.
