For the Admiralty. Pumping engines, Chatham Dockyard Extension. The Admiralty originally invited tenders for four pumping engines for the Chatham Dockyard Extension in Jul. 1868, and James Watt & Co. duly submitted a tender for four vertical engines. However the Admiralty decided to re-use two high pressure horizontal engines which had originally been fitted in H.M.S. Forth, and the specification was duly revised. James Watt & Co. tendered for the revised pumping machinery and the dock sluices in Jun. 1869.
