Administrative / biographical background (Historical or biographical information about the creator of the record and the context of its creation)

Secure investment and prudent financial control were central to the management of the Institution. Ensuring sufficient funds for paying perpetual annuities, pensions and temporary assistance payments while looking after members' savings and recording income from subscriptions and residents' fees involved compiling a large number of financial records. A plethora of committees, office staff and independent auditors and accountants were involved in their compilation and they have therefore been grouped together in this section.
