Other Data: The Looker-on(Cheltenham) 23/6/1917: Sgt John Dunn Lane, son of Mrs Lane, 29 Montpellier Terrace, has been gazetted 2/Lt in the MGC. He was in one of the groups who enlisted at the end of August 1914 to fill up the ranks of the 5th Glosters and has seen much service, having been through the Somme fighting last summer in charge of a machine gun. Educated at Cheltenham Grammar School, he was articled to Dr W Earengey,solicitor, of Cheltenham, at the time he volunteered.
Cheltenham Chronicle & Graphic 16/09/1916: "PHOTOGRAPH - machine gunner of the Glosters, wounded 28th August and since awarded the DCM. He is the son of Mrs Lane of 29 Montpellier Terrace and the late Mr FH Lane. He was an old Gramarian and articled pupil to Messrs Earengay & Pruen, Solicitors, Cheltenham.
