Description

The United Operative Masons' & Granite Workers' Union (UOMGWU) claimed in the 1920s to have been instituted 8 Oct 1888 as the Aberdeen Operative Masons' & Stonecutters' Society. Its name was changed to UOMGWU in 1896 (see MSS.78/BMWAS/2/2/1/i). It became one of the constituent parts of the Building and Monumental Workers' Association of Scotland in 1920 (q.v., MSS.78/BMWAS). Only a single volume of its records has survived among those of UCATT. Some minutes, annual reports, and journals are in Aberdeen University Library.
