Description

Sun and Planet Engines. (15 items).

217. Isaac Morgan, Cork / Nicholas Roe & Co., Dublin (IM). Nov. 1800, Jan., Feb., May 1801, Feb., Mar. 1811. 15 items.
14 horse power sun & planet engine, with 20¾ inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron connecting rod.

Coloured original and reverse general view of the engine, coloured original and reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler; reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses, framing and cistern dated Nov. 1800, marked "This fair copy made Nov. 1827"; second set of reverse sections and plan of engine and boiler houses, framing and cistern dated Jan. & Feb. 1801. Working gear - coloured original front and side views. All the drawings bear letter codes.
Also the following drawings made for Nicholas Roe & Co., Mar. 1811: reverse plan and longitudinal section of engine, cross-section of boilers, longitudinal section of boiler and cross-section of engine house; sketch plan and section of the engine house and premises showing millwork, floors etc. with notes on the engine by William Creighton [?], dated 25 Feb. 1811. All the drawings except the last item bear letter codes.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 422. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 50.

For Isaac Morgan. Flour mill, Cork. The engine was damaged by fire, and later purchased by Nicholas Roe & Co. for a distillery in Dublin. The notes of Feb. 1811 said "It is unknown here what materials the engine has, and in the sketch I have supposed it to have rotative wheels."
