Description

Contains interrogatories produced in the church court, including an inhibitis (a document issued by a higher ecclesiastical authority to inhibit or restrain the activities of the court).

Interrogatories are series of questions to be put to witnesses by one or other of the parties involved in a cause.

For example

17th century case relating to the will of George Piper of Tenterden, Kent, deceased. Questions put to Thomas Pope, executor of the will: 'was it at the said...publication of it [the will], so blotted, erased and defaced as it now is...?' 'when and by whom and upon what occasion were the said erasures which are now in the said published will made...?' (DCb/PRC/40/1).

The preamble to the cases is in Latin. The main lists of questions put to witnesses are in English.
