Description

The documents in this class were received in the County Record Office loose, but all have a filing hole through them though it is uncertain whether they formed one or more files. The series listed some years previously by the National Register of Archives was then in no sort of order and contained some engrossed deeds now returned to their classes. Of the remaining 56 documents No. 26 in the Register's list is missing, while 15 other drafts found in sorting this archive have been added. The whole series has been repaired and bound up in chronological order. As noted above, some Rye documents appear in this class, but as the previous file (RYE/139) was still intact it was felt improper to remove them into it.

No doubt both files were the work of William Appeton the town clerk in his public or private capacity. Some strays from the Plea Rolls (RYE/35) became mixed with this file at an early date.
