Administrative / biographical background

Foster, Herbert Wilson (1848-1929). English porcelain decorator. At Minton factory from 1872, specialized in portraits of contemporary personalities, including royal family. Also painted animals and birds. Exhibited paintings at Royal Academy and in Europe. Teacher at Nottingham School of Art from 1893. Work normally signed.

The artist married Rebecca Fisher of Scarrington House at Scarrington in 1894. Both husband and wife exhibited at Nottingham Castle Local Artists'
