Description (What the record is about)
-
He concluded that certain passages in the text referred to the period following the passing of the Toleration Act of 1689, [1 Will. & Mary, c. 18], thus assigning the document to the late 17th century. However the words 'Enfield', 'William' and 'Sudbury' all appear in the volume. [William Enfield, 1741-1797, born in Sudbury, Suffolk, was a minister of Benn's Garden Chapel from 1763-1770, see H.D. Roberts, Hope Street Church, pp. 193-198], whilst Anne Holt in Walking Together, 1938, p. 107 states that an MS sermon of Henry Winder, minister, 1718-1732, in shorthand survives. It would appear that this volume has been handled by more persons than Mr. Herford suggests.
