Steam Boat Engines (26 items).

1145. Holyhead Packet Gulnare (OD & OE). Feb. 1832, May, Aug., Nov., Dec. 1833, Aug. 1837, Feb., Apr., Jun. 1838, Jul., Aug. 1839, Feb. 1840. 26 items.
Two 50 horse power side lever boat engines, with 39½ inch cylinders, 3½ foot strokes. Boat re-named Gleaner, power increased to 65 horses 1837.

Section of the boat and engines, section of the boat and boiler, gangway wale and paddle casing, plan and section of the engine platform, plan of the engines and sleepers etc., plan of the beams, longitudinal section of the engine room - reverse drawings made in the London office; plan and cross-section of boiler, longitudinal and cross-sections of boiler - original and reverse drawings made in the London office Feb. 1832 and re-used for the Gulnare in 1833; plan and longitudinal section of the engine room - coloured original drawings (these drawing were made from the reverse drawings sent from the London office); working gear - coloured original drawing; engine and paddle shafts and cranks etc. - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings. Several of these drawings bear letter codes.
Also the following items from when the boat was re-named Gleaner: plan and sections of boiler - 2 reverse drawings made in the London office, new 45¼ inch belted cylinders - partially coloured reverse drawing, plan and sections of boiler - coloured original drawing, Aug. 1837; blow-out pipes and cocks - original and partially coloured reverse drawings, Feb. 1838; plan and sections of coal boxes - reverse drawing made in the London office, Apr. 1838; plan and sections of enlarged boilers and coal boxes - partially coloured reverse drawing made in the London office, Jun. 1838; plan and sections of boiler - 2 partially coloured reverse drawings, Jul. 1839; plan and section of coal boxes - reverse drawing, Aug. 1839; plan and sections of engines, boiler etc. - partially coloured reverse drawing made in the London office, Feb. 1840, marked "as fitted, repair of 1839, 1840".

For H. M. Post Office, Holyhead station. Gulnare was built at Chatham Dockyard. The boat was re-named Gleaner in 1837 when the Navy took over the Post Office packet fleet. She was later deployed as a tender at the North America and West Indies station at Bermuda, and scrapped in 1850. Her engines were transferred to the Monkey, formerly the Royal Sovereign.
