Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry in action. He set a fine example to his men and commanded them most ably. With his guns, he did fine work in assisting in breaking up an enemy counter attack and in securing the position.

bar to MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Under the most trying conditions, he directed the fire with great skill, holding up the massed enemy infantry for twenty hours until our troops were withdrawn. Then he went 500 yards across the open under a merciless fire to communicate order to the flank. He was shot through the jaw soon after leaving his position, but carried out his instructions, thus enabling all his guns to be withdrawn intact.;
