Description (What the record is about)
-
The records described in the following list compiled by Richard Storey, Senior Project Officer, were deposited in the Centre by the Federation in April 1974. When it was established in 1919 the Federation represented workers in 11 firms making steel and metal pens, but with the change in writing methods it now has less than 1,000 members employed in only two firms. As well as a continuous series of Federation minutes from its foundation to the end of 1959, the deposit includes minutes of the interim committee which preceded the formal establishment of the Federation, some early correspondence, and papers relating to the Joint Council of the Federation and the Association of British Steel Pen Makers.
