The deeds in this collection consist mainly of Skinner family settlements. John Maclean Skinner, barrister, lived for a short time, c.1860-63, at Brocton Lodge, co. Staffs., and later moved to Wolverhampton. Apart from his own marriage settlements, many of the other settlements were made on the marriages of his children. Intermarriage with the Chaplin family, in the case of Holroyd Chaplin and Euphemia Skinner in 1870, brought the Chaplin/Ayrton settlement deeds, and the deeds of the Valpy Family trust, of which Holroyd Chaplin was a trustee, into the collection.
