Administrative / biographical background: The church of St.Mary, Lower Gravenhurst, was closed for worship in 1970, and later made redundant by order in Council dated 14 August 1972 under which the parishes of Upper and Lower Gravenhurst were united. The churchyard remained in use until 1992. The church was vested in the Redundant Churches Fund on 22 Feb. 1974, and the pastoral care of the parish is entrusted to the incumbent of the benefice of Upper with Lower Gravenhurst.
