Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the first days fighting, this officer in command of a battery of four guns engaged with great success, large enemy targets. On the following day, he showed skill and coolness in covering the infantry withdrawal. Subsequently, when in danger of being cut off he withdrew his guns, one by one, taking up a fresh position 800 yards in the rear. He continued his good work throughout the battle.;

with 59 Bn March 1918 - war diary "C" Bty 21/3/1918: Lt Pulley, the officer in charge was informed by the OC Infantry that he had been ordered to withdraw to the next system and it was urged that the MGs should conform. Lt Pulley, however, volunteered to cover the withdrawal of the infantry which was effected with slight loss.
