For Benjamin Gibbons & Co. Level Iron Works, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Gibbons & Co. originally asked Boulton Watt & Co. to alter the single-acting 46 inch engine shown in Creighton's drawing, which had already been converted from an atmospheric engine. However they decided that this would not provide enough power and ordered this engine.
Note that the Catalogue of Old Engines confuses this engine and the 45 inch engine PZ of 1839 [see Portfolio 5/679d below], saying that engine PZ was erected in 1810. It also erroneously assigns the code TT to the engine for Wednesbury Oak [see Portfolio 5/679b below], when that engine was in fact coded HH.
