Description (What the record is about)
-
Red cloth-bound scrapbook, 230 x 280 mm, containing albumen prints secured at the corners by a combination of slits cut in the page and paper tabs pasted on the reverse. The majority of prints, which include ethnographical and topographical views in Assam, appear to be by Oscar Mallitte (three are signed) and have been captioned on the negative. In addition there are pencil inscriptions throughout and a note at the front of the album which reads: 'Assam. Where Col H. Foquett was stationed about 30 years & which he left before the Indian Mutiny'. Henry Foquett (1804-1887) commanded the 2nd Assam Light Infantry between 1841-54 and presumably this album was put together by him or a relative as a memento of his time in the region, although the photographs are not contemporary with his residence. Process = Albumen prints. Photographers = Oscar Mallitte,;.
