Gallantry Notes: Citation for MC (LG 10/12/1919): For great courage and devotion to duty on 17 October 1918 when in command of a section near St Benin detailed to fire a barrage to support an infantry advance. The battery position was heavily shelled with high explosive and gas and one section was withdrawn. He, however, in spite of being twice severely wounded, persisted in carrying out his task.;

NB: War Diary (Narrative of operations)50 Bn October 1918: " ….considerable machine gun fire was encountered from T.27.c. which held up the infantry's advance and made it impossible for the section of machine guns detailed to establish a post at T.21/d.5.o. to move forward. Sergt Kelly, section Sergt, succeeded in locating the enemy's position and at once dashed forward, followed by his section officer and two or three infantrymen. He and his officer 2/Lt Weller arrived alone at the position after running 400 yards under MG fire and received the surrender of 4 Officers, 47 men, 5 machine guns, 2 light Minenwerfer and an anti-tank gun, thus enabling the advance to continue…."

Son of Arthur W and Caroline M. Weller, of 114, Clonmore St., Southfields, London. S. V. H. 13. St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen - Seine-Maritime, France.
