Ms diary (77p), in the form of a letter to his wife, written by an employee of the Federal Malayan State Railways while he was a civilian internee in Singapore in Joo Chiat police station (February - March 1942) and Changi Gaol (March 1942 - August 1943) with a postscript added in August - September 1945 covering the period in Changi Gaol after August 1943 and the move to Sime Road camp in May 1944, with interesting entries about the prevalence of rumours, the lack of communication with the outside world, the 'Double Tenth' raid and its aftermath, food, accommodation and sickness among the internees; together with a number of related papers including notices on diet and on the Japanese surrender issued by the 'Men's Representatives' in Sime Road, a table of ration scales during internment, two books of rates on training courses attended by Beck in Changi Gaol, two portraits of him as an internee, a Japanese propaganda newspaper (July 1945), two issues of THE STRAITS TIMES (September 1945) and a few other printed items.
