Political and secret letters and enclosures from the Madras Government to the Secretary of State for India in London - copies of the Secretary of State's answering dispatches are included from 1897. The enclosures comprise extracts of proceedings, correspondence, minutes, reports etc relating to the subjects raised in the letters. Note:- correspondence relating to South Indian States 1886-1899 has been extracted from Vols 2-4 of this series and renumbered as L/PS/7/422.
