45 horse power crank engine, with 33 1/3 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod. [Also the atmospheric engine which this replaced.]

Reverse general view of the engine, reverse plan and front view of the engine and boilers, reverse longitudinal section of boiler; reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and framing, reverse drawings of the cistern; spur wheel - reverse drawing. All the drawings bear letter codes.
Also the following items sent to Boulton Watt & Co.: ground plan of the mill showing location of old engine, shafts etc., with sheet of remarks and letter from John Stephenson; coloured elevation of the firm's atmospheric engine (which is depicted with sun & planet gear) and plan of the engine house, with letter from John Stephenson dated Bolton, 15 Jun. 1801; letter from Thomas Livesey with sketch plans for the engine house, one with three boilers dated 25 Jun. 1801.

For Dixon Greenhalgh & Welchman. Cotton mill, Bolton. This engine replaced a atmspheric engine. The sheet of remarks with the ground plan of the premises note that this "Common Engine" was 9 horse power, with a 21 inch cylinder and an estimated 6 foot stroke, making an estimated 28 strokes per minute, turning nearly 1000 spindles.
