Description (What the record is about)
-
He received Hill's of the 3rd but did not answer until he had been at Hawkestone, where he was yesterday and found Hill paid Mr. Minshall for the farm in Whixall and 3 tenements in Cotton, £3,108. The weather continues so bad that Hill's business at Hawkestone goes on but slowly. There is no danger but all will be finished in due time otherwise the poor farmers will be ruined in their harvest affairs.
Wm. Price the mason has almost finished the new work in the west front which looks very well, and in Chambre's judgement proves himself a very good workman.
The skreens or 6 seats (?) for the "dunge" or wilderness and garden are almost finished, but very different to directions which made him so angry that he threatened to turn them upon him "Your workmen have been so used to their own ways there that directions signify nothing if not agreeable to their own fancy and interest".
He will not press the Lord Kilmorrey about his principal debt but will receive it if it comes. He has told him that thought his interest is £5 - 10 Hill would accept £5 if it should be well paid.
The brick and tile is not yet made, nor could it possibly be because of the bad weather, without the charge of Hovels to work under and if the brick had been made the roads have been and still are, so bad that the coals cannot be had to burn them.
About Michaelmas next he will take care that the firs and fruit trees shall be planted for the walk and new orchard.
Mr. Robert Adams has a mind to come into Shropshire to see his estate. Chambre will give all the attention he can to that affair. Hill forgot to say in his last whether Chambre should send a bill for £250 which belongs to Hill's nieces and which has lain in Mr. Powys' hands for about a month or whether he may conveniently apply it in Shropshire to Hill's account.
Mr. Dickens does not think he shall come to Shropshire before Michaelmas. Chambre has his last year's accounts ready which he thought to have sent by him, but will now send some by some other hand.
Directed for the Honble. Mr. Hill.
