Records of the Ipswich Branch of the Sun Alliance Assurance Company and its predecessor companies, 1802-1960. The Suffolk and General Country Fire Office was founded in 1802. In 1819 it became the Suffolk and General Country Amicable Fire Office, under which name it traded until 1849. In that year it was taken over by the Alliance Insurance Company, and for many years afterwards was known as the Suffolk Alliance Life and Fire Assurance Company.
