SSC/137 a - Manuscript diary entitled "From Sion to Zermatt over the Cols. The middle passage. I. By JQF. 1863. The Evolena district". Handwritten copperplate text, interspersed with pencil and watercolour sketches and maps. Vol. 'I' covers the area from Sion in the Rhone Valley south-east towards Evolena, the Val d'Herens and the Val d'Arolla. The beginning of the text has the undated heading 'A week in the Val d'Herens'.
SSC/137 b - Manuscript diary entitled "The middle passage from Sion to Zermatt. August 1863. II. By JQF. 1863". Handwritten copperplate text, interspersed with pencil and watercolour sketches and maps. Covers the area west and north-west from Evolena, as far as the Valley of St Nicholas, thence south to Zermatt. Vol. 'II' begins at 17 August 1863, headed 'The Cols de Torrent & Sorrebois from Evolena to Zinal'.
SSC/137 c - Melinex sleeve holding three photocopied studio portraits of Jane, Henry and Douglas Freshfield, plus typed sheet of potted biographies.
