The General Manager was one of seven Chief Officers in the Bracknell Development Corporation. He was involved with all areas of the development of Bracknell and was based at the Corporation's office at Farley Hall, Binfield, Bracknell. He controlled and approved all decisions and had was in charge of a large number of staff including the Social Development Officer. The General Manager, alongside other Chief Officers, attended board meetings and worked closely with the Corporation's board.
The Corporation had four General Managers from 1949-1982:1. Sir Ambrose Flux Dundas, 1950-1952.(Dundas returned to the Corporation and served as its second Chairman after the retirement of Sir Lancelot Keay in 1959.)2. Captain Thomas M Brownrigg, 1952-1955.3. John V Rowley, 1955-1973.4. Gerald J Bryan, 1973-1982.
