Opened as Herrington Street Wesleyan Chapel in May 1868. In Sans Street Circuit until 1892, then St Johns Circuit [see MC.Su2], it was part of Sunderland Mission Circuit [MC.Su3] by World War 1. In 1962 it was rejoined to Sunderland South Circuit [MC.Su2], and the church was closed in 1971.
