Description (What the record is about)
-
In Swire's hand.
It is evidently useless to try to come to some arrangement.
1. He always understood that when Mr. Furley was given the living by Mrs. Warter, it was on the distinct understanding that he need not take service at Asterley. "I could not make out what you mean about having taken Longden Church of his own free will".
2. He said that before finally deciding the parishioners ought to have a voice in the matter and the Bishop agreed - they have not been so considerately treated in the past.
3. Seddon's idea that because the visitation of Longden for six months in the year is worth £25 that the visitation of Asterley is worth £50 is absurd.
4. Does Seddon suggest that Longden stipend of say £500 should be cut up into £250 and that a rectory be built at Longden, that Jenkins build one at Cruckton and that the first and second portions of Pontesbury should be left under one rector with two rectories?
Longden with a rectory and £250 seems a good living "What is the second portion of Pontesbury with also one church, as it would then be named Asterley "They would have to go over Seddon's parish of Plealey and Arscott to get theirs up to Lords Heath and this is the principal objection to Asterley at Present. "I am surprised what you say about Jenkins as he certainly agreed to the division.
A great number of Plealey children come to Longden School - they ought to go to Lee Cross as they are in the second portion. If they had a resident clergyman and a decent church most of the Plealey people would come to Longden.
