Agreement, 23 December 1712.
1. George Mason of Westhouses and John Thistlethwait of Dent Town, both in Dent, churchwardens of chapel in Dent, on behalf of rest of inhabitants of Dent.
2. John Thompson of Kirkby Stephen, clockmaker.
Covenants: (2) is to uphold, maintain, repair and keep in good order and sufficient repair church clock within parish of Dent for term of his natural life, and is to come immediately to repair clock on notice given by (1) at any time.
Consideration: 6s. 8d. in hand and 3s. 4d. further yearly to be paid each Michaelmas, but if (2) neglects to come on notice he will forfeit that year's salary.
Witness: Richd Tennant.
Endorsement: note of payment by (1) to (2) of sum of 3s. 4d. for salary for year ending at Michaelmas next, witnessed by Rich Tennant.
