The school was opened in 1876 when it was known as Waldron Cross-in-Hand National School, and consisted of mixed and infants' departments. In July 1969 Waldron CE School closed and the pupils transferred to Cross-in-Hand School. The building in Eastbourne Road was built in 1899; the school continued on a split site after a new building in Sheepsetting Lane opened in 1969, which was extended in 1974. In 1984 the school moved from its old split site to new buildings
