Between James Brockman (1), Martha Griffith (2), William Brockman (3), and Julius Deedes and Elizabeth his wife, John Drake, Edward Northey and Sarah Drake, spinster (4) for the division of the estates held by them in undivided moieties, so that the Sussex estates might be settled on and enjoyed by the said James Brockman or by the said Martha Griffith, and the whole estate in Surrey by the other
The Sussex premises were valued at £5150 and the Surrey estate at £4987
It was agreed to leave it to Martha Griffith to dispose of the undivided moiety of Weard Farm and 261 acres of woodland in Brightling and Burwash at not less than £2575
A meeting to be arranged. Two tickets on vellum or paper to be prepared, on one written (Sussex moiety) and on the other (Surrey moiety); the tickets to be rolled up in exactly the same form and enclosed in balls of wax to be made up so like as not to be known or distinguished from each other and then put into a glass or other vessel and to be taken and drawn out by a child or some other person and one of the balls to be delivered to the said James Brockman and the other to Martha Griffith. The party to whom the Sussex estate sould fall to pay to the other party receiving the Surrey estate £81.10s., being half the excess of the difference in value

With a memo, endorsed, 4 Jan., 1732-3, that the tickets were drawn by Daniel Taylor, the Sussex moiety falling to James Brockman and the Surrey moiety to Martha Griffith
